Jerome Township is governed by a board composed of three elected trustees. The trustees adopt resolutions; approve the annual budget, payrolls and bills; and set policy for the township.
Robert (Bob) Merkle (Term: January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2013)
Mr. Robert Merkle was elected in November 2005 and is serving his second term as a Trustee of Jerome Township. Bob Merkle received his bachelor’s degree from the Ohio State University in 1962 and his master’s degree in Educational Administration from OSU in 1968. Bob was raised in Union County and he and his wife Suzanne have resided in Jerome Township since 1971 and raised their children, Jennifer and Rob, in this community. Bob retired from the South-Western City Schools after serving for thirty-six years, thirty as the principal of several elementary schools. In addition to knowing the community, he brings zoning experience to his position as he is a past member of the Jerome Township Zoning Commission. Bob is currently a member of the Ohio Township Association, the Plain City Presbyterian Church, and the Plain City Lions Club. Bob states he is proud to serve the residents of Jerome Township and welcomes the opportunity to help direct the growth and development of the community. He solicits your comments, concerns, and suggestions for improvement of township services to the residents.
Ron Rhodes has been a Jerome Township resident for thirty-four years. During those years he has served as a Jerome Township Trustee for eighteen years, a Board of Zoning Appeals member for six years, and a Zoning Commssion member for four years. Mr. Rhodes has also served as a Jerome Township Firefighter since the inception of the department in 1992. Mr. Rhodes has been married for thirty-nine years with two married children living in Columbus, Ohio and Castle Rock, Colorado and has tree grandchildren. Mr. Rhodes education includes The Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio; Capital University, Columbus, Ohio; and Muskingum College, New Concord, Ohio. He is a member of the new California Presbyterian Church for thirty-two years. He is also a member of Urania No. 311 Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Aladin Temple Shrine. Mr. Rhodes owned and operated an apple orchard for fifteen years.
Andrew Thomas (Term: January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2013)
Andy Thomas., Chairman of the Board of Trustees, was elected in November, 2005. Mr. Thomas is essentially a lifetime resident of Jerome Township. Andy served the township as a member and chairman of the Board of Zoning Appeals prior to his election to the Board of Trustees. He and his wife Paula have two sons, Grant and Jared. Grain and livestock farming is the Thomas family business.
