Trustees

According to Section 505.01 of the Ohio Revised Code; In each township there shall be a board of township trustees consisting of three members.  Two of such trustees shall be elected at the general election in nineteen forty-nine and quarderennially thereafter, in each township, who shall hold office for a term of four years, commencing on the first day of January next after their election.  The third trustee shall be elected at the general election in nineteen fifty-one and quardrennially thereafter, in each township, who shall hold office for a term of four years, commencing on the first day of January next after the person’s election.

At the first meeting of the board each calendar year, the board shall select one of its members to serve as chairperson for a term of one year.  If the position of chairperson becomes vacant, the board shall select one of its members to preside.

 

The responsibilities and duties of the trustees are determined by State law.  The duties range from administrative, fiscal, public safety, overseeing cemeteries and parks, township roads, among many others.  They must follow the open meetings and public records laws.   

 

A candidate for trustee must be 18 years old in the state of Ohio to be a township trustee, as well as a registered voter of the township.
